[mMC CLI] Operation Modes

Artifacts collected by mMC can make their way to mConsole in one of two ways—automatically by mMC or manually by the user. For mMC to communicate with mConsole automatically, the collector should run in online mode. Otherwise, mMC can save the artifacts locally by running in offline mode.

Online Mode

The main benefit of running mMC in online mode is to get scan results automatically sent to mConsole for analysis. Additionally, mMC automatically checks for updates of the query definitions, mMC version, migVisor EULA, and encryption keys and performs updates when applicable.

Update Query Definition Files

To use specific versions of query files, provide a path to the query definition files.

To provide a path, add -q or --query-file to the command line parameters. For details, see mMC CLI | Arguments-and-Options.

Offline Mode

Under some scenarios, customers may choose to run mMC in offline mode and save the scan artifacts in an encrypted MGV file locally in order to manually upload them to mConsole at a later time.

To run mMC in offline mode, add -l or --local to the command line parameters. For details, see mMC CLI | Arguments-and-Options.

While in offline mode, mMC can’t update query definition files. To ensure using the latest versions, periodically run mMC in online mode.
